I will demonstrate how existing software environments can be migrated as a virtual machine to an edge computing software platform, which enables management features that were not previously accessible. As a second step I will demonstrate how further microservices (workloads) can be added to the same virtualized edge platform to deliver new features at the edge. I will discuss how edge computing can be applied to standard industrial PCs in brownfield systems, and how edge management software allows for role separation between the IT engineer that provisions workloads and the OT engineer that deploys and operates workloads.
