Edge Ecosystem, Use Cases and Architectures

Edge Developers Conference

As cloud computing is moving to the edge of the network there are a lot of new use cases that require to rethink how the infrastructure is designed and deployed.  In other cases the existing systems get to evolve further to support new demands. Distributed systems become the new norm, often on a massive scale. This deployment model is not a fundamentally new concept, but the scale requires to revisit the compromises we made so far to handle challenges like lifecycle management or interoperability.

The OSF Edge Computing Group is collecting use cases to identify and analyze edge specific requirements that we can use to define reference models, architectures and test plans for projects in the ecosystem to use to enhance existing software components and develop missing pieces.

This session will give an overview of the working group’s activities including the current challenges in the edge computing space. The audience will also learn about the latest white paper the group published about the most important edge use cases, the architecture models we discovered and the implementation and testing considerations of edge clouds.
